Greene County Medical Center is inviting community members to sew handmade medical masks.
The masks will be used by medical center employees and volunteers not involved in direct patient care – such as registration staff – who have been directed to wear protective equipment by the employee health or infection prevention staff.
Masks will also be used by visitors who request a mask and by patients without respiratory symptoms who request a mask or are being discharged from the hospital, emergency room or clinic to their home, a nursing facility or a group care facility.
Masks will be laundered and inspected by the medical center’s linens staff. Extra masks will be stored or donated to another medical facility in need.
Those interested in making masks can download the pattern from the medical center’s website. Sewers are asked to use this pattern as filters can be inserted into the masks.
Completed masks can be dropped off Tuesdays and Thursdays between 1 and 3 pm at the Materials Management delivery door on the north (back) side of the medical center. A map showing the drop-off location is also on the website. Donors will have an option to fill out a “Giving in Kind” form which would make the donation tax-deductible.
“We appreciate the community’s interest in making these masks for us,” said Heather Kinsey, infection prevention RN at Greene County Medical Center. “We’ve already had several requests for a pattern. These masks will help us ensure the health and safety of all who come to the medical center.”
